LEGAZPI CITY — In observance of the National Blood Donors’ Month and the Police Community Relations Month, the Police Community Relations-Technical Working Group joined the City Government of Legazpi (headed by Mayor Noel E. Rosal), the City Health Office (headed by Dr. Fulbert Gillego), and the Legazpi City Blood Council in the Walk for Safe Blood and the Mobile Blood Donation Program held on July 29, 2015.
The Walk for Safe Blood was participated in by the employees of the Legazpi City Government, officers and personnel of different government agencies and nongovernment organizations, as well as students of different schools in the City. The participants assembled at 6:00 AM at the Rotonda and headed to the Ibalong Centrum for Recreation at Bitano, Legazpi City, where a mass and a short program was held.
During the program, Dr. Gillego mentioned that the target of the activity was to obtain 250 blood units in the Mobile Blood Donation program today. Mayor Rosal, on the other hand, thanked everyone who was present in the activity and those who were going to donate in the activity. Vice-Mayor Bitoy Roces likewise expressed his gratitude to all the participants in the activity. All three officials emphasized the importance of donating blood to save other people’s lives, consistent with this year’s theme “Thank you for saving my life.”
On behalf of Dir. Rodolfo G. Santos, Jr., Atty. Adrian Miras of NAPOLCOM 5, delivered a message thanking the City Government and the City Health Office for letting the PCRM-TWG partner with these offices in the conduct of the activity. The PCRM-TWG is likewise celebrating the Police Community Relations Month this July with the theme “Matibay na Ugnayan ng Mamamayan at Pulisya, Simbolo ng Kapayapaan at Kaunlaran ng Sambayanan.” He mentioned that one of the greatest gestures that the police can give the community is by sharing a part of themselves to the community by donating blood.
To assist the City Government of Legazpi and the City Health Office in meeting their target of 250 blood units, qualified office personnel, police officers and police trainees were requested by the PCRM-TWG to be present in the event and to donate blood.
Also part of the program was the slogan-making contest. The participants displayed their original slogans during the Walk for Safe Blood. These slogans were judged during the program with the following declared as winners:
3rd prize (P2,000) — Cabagnan High School
2nd prize (P3,000) — Oro Site High School
1st prize (P5,000) — Aquinas University of Legazpi
The other participants received a consolation prize of P500 each.
Thereafter, the Mobile Blood Donation program began inside the Ibalong Centrum for Recreation.
The Police Community Relations Month-Technical Working Group consists of the NAPOLCOM, PNP, DILG, RTC5, BJMP, BFP, PDEA, PIA, CHED, and DepEd.
The NAPOLCOM 5 personnel who participated in the activities were: Atty. Flora Mangampo-Remolacio, Atty. Louie Toldanes, Atty. Adrian Miras, Ms. Erlinda Cabanela, Ms. Shirley Aguilar, Ms. Cathyrine Lazo, Ms. Eufamia Monasterio, Mr. Arnel Antonio, Mr. Ricardo Fontanilla, Ms. Evelyn Aniel, Ms. Mary Ann Belleza, and Mr. Victor Tence.
